What is windsurfing
Windsurfing is an exciting and exhilarating watersport, perfect for all ages, which has been around since the 1960s.
A combination of surfing and sailing, windsurfing uses a board with a sail which has a boom (handle) connected to help the rider capture the wind, creating momentum and propelling the windsurfer across the water.
Windsurfing has many different guises including general recreational windsurfing or ‘free-ride’, windfoiling, freestyle, wave, slalom, as well as combinations of all the disciplines.
Where can I learn to windsurf
You can take lessons and tuition at our centre The OTC - ‘The Official Test Centre Ltd (OTC)’. Whether you are new to windsurfing and want to learn, or progressing your windsurfing or windfoiling skills, the Team at OTC can assist.
Investing in some lessons and taking tips from our expert instructors, will help you to grasp the basics in no time, whilst also cracking more advanced skills such as carve gybing, waterstarting and windfoiling.
Starting on a nice stable platform, your instructor will show you how to get on the board and sail across the wind back to where you started. You’ll soon be hooked on the sport of windsurfing, harnessing the power, learning to use the footstraps and blasting through the water.
With our watersports centre next door ‘The Official Test Centre Ltd (OTC)’, provides the optimal training centre - A perfect flat water location, in Portland Harbour, boasting some of the best wind statistics of the south coast of England. Catering for all abilities, from the complete beginner to more advanced riders, our operating area is accessible in all wind directions and tide states.
